GRUNAU COMPANY TIMELINE
1920 – Grunau Company
is established by Paul J. Grunau. The company offers plumbing
and repair services to local clients.
1923 – To address
industry changes and meet client needs, Grunau increases
its services
to include heating system installation.
1929 – Grunau continues
to expand its services, adding fire protection to its
list of
specialties.
The new service helps building owners protect their facilities
and meet
state codes.
1929 – Paul E. Grunau
joins his father to help manage the rapidly developing
business.
1960 – Grunau expands
its already diversified business by offering sheet metal
services
to a growing list of clients.
1962 – Gary Grunau
joins the company, representing the third generation of
family leadership.
1967 – Grunau explores
new markets, opening a shop in Indianapolis—its
first shop
outside Wisconsin.
1977 – Grunau adds
specialty metal engineering, fabrication and installation
services to its
expanding list of capabilities by creating a separate
division of the company.
1980 – Grunau expands eastward
and begins operations in Pittsburgh.
1982 – Continued
growth and development allow Grunau to push south and
establish an
office in Orlando, Fla.
1990 – Paul W. Grunau
joins the company as a project manager to continue the
tradition of
service
and workmanship that preceded him. His addition marks
the fourth generation
of family leadership. He is later promoted to Milwaukee
branch manager.
1992 – Grunau modifies
the company's vision to place an emphasis on performance
and culture.
1994 – Grunau incorporates its Youngstown, Ohio, office to establish a presence in
the central U.S.
1995 –
Paul W. Grunau takes the helm of the company when he becomes
president after
serving one year as executive vice president.
1999 – Grunau begins
branding its specialty metal division, calling it Grunau
Metals.
1999 – Paul W. Grunau
purchases the company.
2003 – Grunau begins implementing lean construction techniques, business practices that
were first employed in the manufacturing industry. When used consistently, these
philosophies save time, materials and costs.
2006 – Paul
W. Grunau sells Grunau Company to APi Group, Inc., of
St. Paul, Minn. APi
Group is a family of best-in-class independently managed specialty contractors across
the United States and Canada.
2009 – Larry Loomis assumes the position of President of Grunau Company.
